The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently released a Built Environment Assessment Tool (BE Tool) and manual. The tool is geared towards community program staff and evaluators who need help knowing where to begin when evaluating the built environment. Based on determinations of relevance by subject matter experts, the tool assesses core features of the built environment, such as walkability, bikeability, and access to healthy food. The tool is a great way for practitioners to measure different aspects of the built environment and its impact on health behaviors.
